FROM AL-MALFOOZAAT SHAREEF by AlaHazrat radi allahu anhu

Question: A person is a Mureed of a certain Murshid who passed away a long time ago. Now, can this Mureed of the demised Shiekh became the disciple (Mureed) of another Shiekh?

Answer: It is forbidden to change the Bay’at for no specific valid Islamic reasons. Yes, it is permissible to renew one’s Bay’at (Tajdeed). In fact, it is recommended to take Bay’at with another Murshid-e-Kaamil in the exalted Silsila of Qaderiyah without breaking ties with your Shiekh. Such Bay’at will not be regarded as a new one but a renewal of the old one. This is so because all Silsilas (Spiritual orders) leads to the main stream being the Silsila of Qaderiyah.

A’la Hadrat went on further: Once three Qalandars (certain type of Dervishes) humbled themselves in the illustrious presence of Shiekh-ul Mashaa’ikh, Sultan Nizamuddin Mehboob-e-Elahi (Radi Allah Anhu). They requested for food so the Shiekh ordered the Khadim (servant) to give them whatever was present. When the Khadim presented the food, the Qalandars looked at the food, picked it up, threw it and demanded better food. Witnessing this attitude of the guests, the great Sheikh did not comment, but ordered the Khadim to present better food. The Khadim then got better food and presented it to the guests. They looked at the food, picked it up and threw it for the second time. They then demanded better food. The Noble Shiekh still kept calm and ordered for better food. Better food was presented for the third time and the Qalandars threw it away and still demanded better food. After the third time, Sheikh-ul Mashaa’ikh called the Qalandar close to him and spoke very softly in his ears: “At least this food is better than the dead ox you ate on your way to me”.

When he heard this, the condition of the Qalandar changed. (On their way they were without food for three days and were starving. Eventually they came across a dead ox so they ate from it to survive). The Qalandars fell on the feet of great Shiekh and cried. Shiekh-ul Mashaa’ikh lifted them up and embraced them. They were spiritually blessed by the Sheikh. After this spiritual blessing, they started dancing in ecstasy saying: “My Murshid blessed me with Ne’mah”. The disciples present there said to them: “You fool! You came here as a destitute. Whatever you received was from our Sheikh (Murshid) and not from your Murshid”. They replied: “You are fools, because if it was not by the guidance of our Murshid, why would your Murshid bless us?” On hearing this, Khwaja Nizamuddin (Radi Allah Anhu) said: “They are speaking the truth. O my Brothers (disciples), if you want to learn how to become a Mureed, learn from these Qalandars”.

EFFECTS OF HUZUR GHAUS E PAK (RADI ALLAHU TA’ALA ANHU) LECTURES

HUZUR GHAUS E PAK (RADI ALLAHU TA’ALA ANHU’s) lectures were full of knowledge and wisdom. They were so influential and powerful that listeners would go into spiritual ecstasy.

Some of them would tear their clothes. Others would fall unconscious. On some occasions, certain listeners would become so lost in the gems of love for Allah and His Rasool (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) that the great Saint (alaihir rahmah) presented in his lectures, that they would even pass away in this condition.

On various occasions, even non-Muslims came to his lectures. After listening to his lectures they would find that they could not refute anything he said and they would willingly accept Islam.

In addition to the ordinary members of the public, Rijaal-ul-Ghaib and Jinns also frequented his blessed gatherings.

Akaabireen and Mashaa’ikh also frequented his gatherings. It was a training school for the young, a place to repent for the sinful, a place of guidance for the misguided, and a bank of spiritualism for the spiritually bankrupt.

His voice was very stern and sharp. One of the miracles of his Majlis was that each and every person sitting there heard him alike, even though in those times, there was no means of voice amplification, such as microphones and the like.

Al-Ghawth al-A’zam’s (alaihir rahmah) close student, Sayyidi Abdullah Jabaa’ee (alaihir rahmah), states that during this era of his lectures, more than 100, 000 sinners repented at the blessed hands of al-Ghawth al-A’zam (alaihir rahmah) and thousands of Jews and Christians accepted Islam at his hands.

All the great scholars agree that during that era the majority of the people in Baghdad repented from their wrongs at the hands of the great Saint and also became his disciples.

Once, thirteen

Christians accepted Islam in the Majlis of Sheikh Abd al-Qaadir al-Jilani (alaihir rahmah). When they were requested to explain their acceptance of Islam, they said that they heard of the religion of Islam and that their hearts were pleased with this Deen but they had been in search of a true servant of Allah who would, by looking at them, dispel the darkness of their hearts. While they were in search of this true servant of Allah, they heard a Voice from the Unseen saying,

“Go to Sheikh Abd al-Qaadir in Baghdad and bring Islam on his hands, for it is he who will cleanse your hearts and fill it with light of Imaan
(Faith)”.

When the thirteen Christians received this message from the Unseen, they travelled to Baghdad and accepted Islam on the hands of Sheikh Abd al-Qaadir Jilani (alaihir rahmah). Read the rest of this entry »

An Orphan’s Eid

It was the day of celebration and a day of rejoicing. There was an air of festivity in the streets of Madinah. All the people, both young and old were dressed in their best clothes, especially for this special day of Eid.

As it was time for early morning Eid prayers everyone made their way to an open piece of land on the outskirts of the city. The Prophet Muhammad (sallallaho aliehe wasallam) arrived and led the prayers. After they had finished they all greeted each other and everyone was walking back home.

The children running and playing in excitement, smiling and laughing, without a care in the world. As the Prophet (sallallaho aliehe wasallam) walked back home, he suddenly became aware of a little boy (Zuhair Bin Saghir radi allahu anhu) sitting by himself on the side of the path.

The little boy was crying and looked very sad. The Prophet (sallallaho aliehe wasallam) bent down and patted him on the shoulders and asked

‘why are you crying?’

‘Please leave me alone’ sobbed the little boy.

The boy didn’t even see who was talking to him.

The Prophet (sallallaho aliehe wasallam) ran his fingers through the boy’s hair and very gently and kindly asked him again why he was crying.

This time the boy said, Read the rest of this entry »

Imām Aḥmad Riḍā Khān al Qādirī Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu

Released on the occasion of the 93rd ʿUrs Sharif of the Imām

I | Ignorant Ṣūfīs

The noble friends of Allāh SubHanuhu wa Ta’ala state – “an ignorant ṣūfī is shayṭān’s joke.” Similarly, a ḥadīth of the noble Messenger of Allāh SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam informs us –

فقيه واحد اشد على الشيطان من الف عابدين

“A single jurist is severer upon shayṭān than a thousand worshippers.” [Tirmidhī and ibn Mājah]

Those who remain ignorant yet strive hard in their worship are merely made to dance by shayṭān upon his fingers. He places bridles in their mouths and tangs in their noses, and thus drags them wherever he wishes, whilst they convince themselves that they are accumulating good deeds.

Sayyidunā Junayd al Baghdādī Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu  states –

“my spiritual guide, Sayyidunā Sirrī Saqtī Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu  supplicated for me thus – ‘may Allāh SubHanuhu wa Ta’ala grant you the knowledge of ḥadīth and then make you a ṣūfī, and may He not make you a ṣūfī before granting you the knowledge of ḥadīth.” [Iḥyā 'Ulūm ud-Dīn; Vol. 1; Page 13]

Sayyidunā Imām al Ghazālī Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu states – whilst explaining this statement –

“here, Sayyidunā Sirrī Saqtī Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu meant that the one who steps into the field of taṣawwuf [spirituality] armed with the knowledge of ḥadīth is victorious, whereas the one who ventures forth without knowledge is merely (– Allāh forbid! –) placing himself into destruction.”

Sayyidunā Abu-l Qāsim Junayd al Baghdādī Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu states –

“the one who has neither memorised the Qurān, nor written ḥadīth (meaning the one who lacks the knowledge of the jurisprudence) shouldn’t be followed by seekers of the path (of taṣawwuf,) nor should he be taken as a murshid [spiritual guide,] as all our knowledge of ṭarīqah is in obedience to the Book and sunnah.”

Sayyidunā Sirrī Saqtī Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu states –

“taṣawwuf is the name of the coming together of three qualities: firstly, the light of his (meaning the spiritual traveller’s) gnosis should not extinguish his light of asceticism. Secondly, he should not utter anything esoterically which exoterically contradicts the Qurān or noble ḥadīth. Finally, none of his miracles should be a means of him revealing that which Allāh SubHanuhu wa Ta’ala has forbidden to be revealed.” [Risālat ul Qushayriyah; Page 13]

Sayyidunā Shaykh Shihāb ud-Dīn as-Suharwardī Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu states –

“that ‘ḥaqīqah’ [spiritual reality] which contradicts the sharī’ah [sacred law] is not in reality ḥaqīqah, but rather plain heresy.” [Awārif ul Ma'ārif; Vol. 1; Page 43] Read the rest of this entry »

Surah Al Qamar glorious miracle of splitting of the moon, yet stubborn infidels failed to accept faith in it

ALLAHbeginning with the name of the Most Affectionate, the Merciful.

Translation from AlaHazrat radi allahu anhu’s “Kanzul Iman” Tafsir from Mufti Ahmed Yaar Khan Naeemi radi allahu anhu’s “Noor Ul Irfan”

1.The hour came near and the moon was split

* In that one of the major signs of the Day of Judgement, the splitting of the moon has taken place.

* In this verse, reference is made to one of the major miracles of the Holy Prophet Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam, i.e. the splitting of the moon. Its summary is as foIlows Allama Ahmed Zaryooni states in his Sharah Qaseedah Burdah that Abu Jahl called upon his Yemeni friend Habib to assist him to stop the propagation of Islam. When Habib came to the sacred city of Makkah, Abu Jahl listed many complaints against the Holy Prophet Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam  to him. In reply Habib said that he would discuss this with the Holy Prophet Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam He sent courier to inform the Holy Prophet. Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam  that he has come from Yemen and is sitting with the leaders of the Quraish at a certain place, and that he wishes to see him. It was the fourteenth night. The moon was at its fullest. The Holy Prophet Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam  responded to the call of Habib. The Yemenite asked: “Towards what are you inviting the people?” “Towards the Oneness of Allah and His Prophet”, was the reply. Habib then asked: “what miracle do you have?” “whatever you desire”, was the reply. “Of the miracles that I would like to see, the first is that you should split the moon in two, after which I would request the others”, said Habib. The Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam  replied: “Come to the hill of Safa”. Habib, accompanied by all the leaders of the Quraish. followed the Holy Prophet Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam  to the hill of Safa. There he pointed his blessed finger towards the moon and, lo and behold! The moon split into two, one half stayedon the one side of the hill and the other half on the other side: i.e. there was quite a distance between the two halves. The moon remained in this split condition for some time. for everyone to see. Thereafter, the Holy Prophet Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam  again pointed to the moon and at once the two halves were joined into one. Then. the Holy Prophet Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam asked: “Oh Habib, what else do you want to see?” He replied: “Tell me what is in my heart’? The Holy Prophet Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam  replied: “Oh Habib, you have a daughter who is cripple, deaf and dumb. Your wish is that either she be cured. if not, she should die. Go, she is cured, and I want you now to recite the Kalimah and accept Islam’. Habib, and many others present there accepted Islam. Seeing this, Abu Jahl burned with envy and said that this is witchcraft. Read the rest of this entry »

QASIDA AL-BURDA: THE PROPHET’S MANTLE

QASAAID

AL-BURDA:
THE PROPHET’S MANTLE

Composed by:
IMAM AL-BUSIRI
Rahmatullahi ‘Alaih

An Appreciation by Siddiq Osman Noormuhammad

The Burda, or the Prophet’s Mantle is a qasida (poem) composed by the great Sufi Shaykh Imam Sharafuddin Muhammad Al-Busiri Rahmatullahi ‘Alaih who was born in Misr (Egypt) in 608 A.H. (1212 C.E) and died in 695 A.H. (1296 C.E). He was a disciple of Imam Abu’l ‘Abbas al-Mursi Rahmatullahi ‘Alaih who was a Khalifa of Imam Abu’l Hasan ash-Shazili Rahmatullahi ‘Alaih.

He composed the Burda while suffering from a stroke which had paralysed half of his body. After praying to Allah Sub’hanahu wa Ta’ala to heal him, he fell asleep and in his dream recited this qasida to the Holy Prophet Sayyidina wa Mawlana Hadhrat Muhammad Mustafa Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam who touched the paralysed part of his body and threw his mantle (Burda) over him. On arising, he was miraculously cured, the news of which spread far and wide. Hence the qasida came to be called Qasida tu’l Burda and received veneration among all Muslims as a qasida especially approved by the beloved Prophet Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam. Its verses are often learned by heart and inscribed on the walls of public buildings. It is congregationally recited in the majalis (spiritual gatherings) of the Zaakireen (those who remember Allah Ta’ala) all over the world. It cures diseases as well as purifies hearts if recited with love and devotion.

More than 90 commentaries have been written on this qasida and it has been translated in Persian, Urdu, Turkish, Berber, Punjabi, English, French and German, among other languages.

The Burda is in 10 parts and has 160 verses all of which end in the Arabic letter Meem, hence it is a “Meemiyya“. The 10 parts of the Burda are about

  1. Love for Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam
  2. A warning against the desires of the nafs
  3. Praise of the beloved Prophet Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam
  4. Events occuring on his birth
  5. His miracles
  6. Praise of the Glorious Qur’an
  7. The “Isra” and “Mi’raj” of the noble Prophet Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam
  8. His battles
  9. Repentence, asking forgiveness of Allah Sub’hanahu wa Ta’ala and seeking intercession of the beloved Prophet Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam
  10. Supplication to Allah Sub’hanahu wa Ta’ala

Reproduced here are verses 34 to 42 from Part 3 in praise of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him. The translation is by Thoraya Mahdi Allam. Read the rest of this entry »

Here’s an excerpt:

Madison Square Garden can seat 20,000 people for a concert. This blog was viewed about 62,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Madison Square Garden, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

The Gift of a Daughter

The following is an excerpt taken from Session 10 of the Anees ul-Arwah–The Malfuzat of Khwaja Uthman Haruni (rehmatullahi alyhe)–as recorded by Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (rehmatullahi alayhe)

He said “Daughters are a gift from God. God is satisfied and pleased with the one, on given a daughter loves her and is pleased by her.  He who expresses joy at the birth of a girl is given the reward of seventy pilgrimages (Hajj) and it is as if he had emancipated seventy people from slavery.  Those mothers and fathers who love their daughters, are gentle and show kindness to them, God shows kindness to them and showers His mercy upon them.”
He then said, “I once saw written in the Aathar-e-Awliyaa that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family) said, “He who has a single daughter has five hundred years between him and the Fire.” And said, “The Prophets (may peace be upon all of them) and the Saints (may God have mercy on all of them) used to be more gentle and loving towards their daughters than their sons.”
Then he mentioned a story about Khwaja Sirri Saqati (may Allah have mercy on him) who had a daughter that he loved dearly.  The daughter heard her father once say, “Would that I break my fast with a brand new jug of cool water.” On hearing her father’s wish she prepared a brand new jug with cool water and placed it next to her father. It was after the ‘asr (late afternoon) prayer and the master fell asleep on his prayer mat. In his dream he sees that in his house in Paradise Allah asks his daughter, “Whose daughter are you?” She replies, “He who drank from the new jug of cool water.” At this his hand struck the jug and broke apart.  Khawaj Sirri (may Allah have mercy on him) arose and cried out, “Sirri, never desire to drink from a new jug, for he who has such a level of desire for worldliness can never reach such a state (as he had seen his daughter reach).”
After articulating all of this, the master completed his address became engrossed in his dhikrand the one in need of his prayers left with the people–all praises to God for that (lesson).

Here we will discuss about some obstacles to the path of seeking knowledge. I humbly pray that this note will enlighten the hearts and encourage my Muslim brothers and sisters to acquire the knowledge of Deen.
