The things, which are connected, linked or associated to the blessed and the Holy Prophet salla allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam , should also be regarded as sacred and must be respected. As their respect is, actually the Respect of our Prophet Peace is upon him.
Hazrat Qadi Iyaad alaihi Rahmah states, The respect of the Messenger is, in addition, that you should respect things around him. The things, which were linked or attached to the Prophet , the places he went to in Macca Sharif and in Madina Sharif, should be honoured and respected. The places he stayed, all those things that were touched by the Prophets hand or those things that were touched by his body and everything, which is called by his name, all these things, should be regarded as sacred and must be respected. (Ash-Shifa Sharif)
That is why the companions, Tabaeen, Tab-e-Tabaeen, and all the Scholars (Radiallaho Taala alayhim Ajmaeen) would always respect the things, which were associated with the Prophet . To prove this some events are written down below
Hazrat Ibn-e-Sirrin Radiallahu Taala Anhu states, I informed Hazrat Ubaidah Radiallahu Taala Anhu that I had some of the blessed hairs of the Messenger of Allah , which were given to me by Hazrat Anas Radiallahu Taala Anhu. After hearing this he said If I receive a single hair of my Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) , it would be more beloved to me than anything in this world (Bukhari Sharif)
Hazrat Safiya states Hazrat Abu Mahzura Radiallahu Taala Anhu who was one of the Prophets Muazzin (the person who calls out the Azaan). The hair of his blessed Head was tied, and whenever he sat down and let go of the tied hair, it would touch the ground. Someone asked him why are you not cutting it? He replied, I cannot cut my hair as the Prophet Peace be upon him touched it. (Shifa Sharif)
Hazrat Aasim Ahwal Radiallahu Taala Anhu says, I once saw a plate of the Messenger of Allah , it was kept by Hazrat Anas Radiallahu Taala Anhu. It was very beautiful, made out of wood. It broke so Hazrat Anas Radiallahu Taala Anhu fixed it by placing a silver wire. Hazrat Anas reports that I saw the Messenger of Allah drinking water from this plate. There was a round iron in the middle. Hazrat Anas wanted to change that round iron into gold or silver, so Hazrat Talha Radiallahu Taala Anhu said to him The thing that was made by the beloved Messenger , never attempt to change it. After hearing this Hazrat Anas left it as it was (Bukhari Sharif)
This plate was so valuable in the eyes of the Muslims, that Hazrat Nazar Bin Anas Radiallahu Taala Anhu brought it for 800,000 Dirhams!
Hazrat Sahal bin Saad Radiallahu Taala Anhu says, Once a woman asked the holy Prophet , Oh messenger of Allah! I have made this cloak with my own hands. I have made it for you to wear. Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) accepted it. He wore it as lungi (worn around the waist, and is legs length). One of the Companions asked the Prophet , Oh Messenger! Please can you give this cloak to me. He replied sure, Insha-Allah. After the meeting was over, he (Peace be upon him) went away and came back and gave the cloak to the companion. People said, You did not do well. You asked the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)for the cloak and you knew that he needed it so he replied, I swear by Allahs name, I asked for it so that I can use it as my Kaffan (cloth to wrap the deceased person). (Bukhari Sharif)
Once the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)was at a particular place with his companions. He asked Hazrat Sahal bin Saad to give him some water to drink. Hazrat Sahal brought a bowl of water, and the Prophet with his companions drank the water. Hazrat Abu Hazim narrates, Hazrat Sahal brought that bowl to us and we drank from I, then later Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz took that bowl from Hazrat Sahal and kept it for himself
Hazrat Asad Bin Zarara gave the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) table as a gift. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)used to rest on it. When he departed this world, he was laid upon this blessed table. After passing away, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique was also laid on this table. Hazrat Umar Faruq was also laid on this table. Hazrat Ayisha kept that table to herself, until Hazrat Abdullah bin Ishaqq brought its wood for 4000 Dinaars.
Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Anbari states that Hazrat Muawiya wanted the cloak that was given to the Hazrat Kaab by the Messenger , for 10,000 Dinaars. However, Hazrat Kaab refused to give it away by saying, I cant give the cloak that was given to me by the Holy Prophet! Later after the departure of Hazrat Kaab from this world, Hazrat Muawiya brought the blessed clock from Hazrat Kaabs family for 20,000 Dinaars!
Hazrat Mullah Ali Qari Rehmatullahi alaihi writes. Hazrat Amir Muawiya had the blessed long kilt (Lungi), cloak and Prophets Holy shirt. He also possessed the blessed hair and the nails of the Messenger . At the time of his death, he advised his people,
I should be clothed with the Prophet s shirt, for my Kaffan, and should be wrapped in his blessed garment. I must be worn in his lungi Mubarak, and my mouth and neck and those areas of my body, which I used for Sijda (prostration), place the blessed hair and the blessed nails. Then bury me and leave me with the Grace and Mercies of Allah (Mirqat)
Hazrat Qadi Iyaad alaihi rahmah writes in his Shifa Sharif, Hazrat Ibn-e-Umar used to go to the lectern of the Holy Prophet , and would kiss the place where the Messenger of Allah used to sit. He would touch the place and would wipe his hands on his face.
Hazrat Qadi Iyaad Rehmatullahi alaihi further writes,
Hazrat Imam Malik would never ride on any type of transport in Medina Sharif. He would say, I feel ashamed in front of Allah that I ride on the animals on that ground in which my beloved is resting.
Hazrat Samhudi writes about Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed who is the teacher of Hazrat Imam Malik , Whenever he intended to go Iraq, he would first go to the lectern of the Messenger, and would kiss it thereafter making Dua for the safety of the journey (Wafa-ul-Wafa)
Hazrat Abu Fadl Johari Rehmatullahi alaihi once intended to go to the blessed city of Medina. When he reached at the border of the great city, he climbed down from his transport and started to recite, We have climbed down from the transport and are walking with our feet, for his respect. We are going to him who is so beloved and to approach him on transport is a sign of disrespect (Shifa Sharif).
Hazrat Ismail Rehmatullahi alaihi writes, The name of the son of Iyaaz was Muhammad. Once the king ordered, Ask the son of Iyaaz to prepare water for me in the bathroom. Iyaaz asked him in a surprised manner, What has my son done wrong that you are not calling his name out as you do normally? The king replied (He has not done anything wrong, but) I was not in the state of Wudhu, thus I felt ashamed calling out his name, Mohammad (Which is the name of our Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)) without being in the state of Wudhu.
So from all these accounts we get to perceive that the Companions, Tabaeen, Tab-e-Tabaeen and the rest of the scholars respected the things which were connected to the Messenger , though that object had very little connection with the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) . Let us consider, if standing up for respect was polytheism (Shirk) then these Great individuals would never have respected the things mentioned above, as all these aspects of respects are prominent and exalted compared to just standing up!
