Except for the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah, all other groups are people of Hell (Part 2)

Madina MunawwarahThis is My Straight Path, so follow it.

[Surah Al-An’aam 6, Verse 153] “And that, ‘This is My Straight Path, so follow it; and do not follow other ways for they will sever you from His way; this is commanded to you, so that you may attain piety.’ ”

Mufassireen say in the commentary of this verse on the accord of the following Hadith narrated by the great Sahabi Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Mas’ood رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ :

(Ibn Hibbaan in His Sahih Vol. 1, p. 181, Hadeeth No. 6; Imam Nasaai in his Sunan Kubra Vol. 6, p. 343, Hadeeth No. 11174; Imam Baghwi in his Sharhus Sunnah, Baab al-I’tisaam; Imam Bazzaar in his Musnad, Hadeeth No. 1694; Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal in his Musnad Hadeeth No. 4142; Daarimi in his Sunan Vol. 1, p. 78, Hadeeth No. 202; Imam Abu Dawood Tiyalisi in his Musnad Vol. 1, p. 33, Hadeeth No. 244; Marwazi in his Sunnah; Imam Hakim in his Mustadrak ‘Alas Saheehain. He said this is a Sahih chained Hadeeth Vol. 2, p. 349, Hadeeth No. 3241; Imam Dhahbi in its annotations agrees that it is a Sahih Hadeeth; Ibn ‘Aasim in his book Al-Sunnah; Ibn Batta in his book Al-Ibaanatul Kubra and also in his book Al-Sughra; Al-Ajurri in his book al-Shariah; Imam Al-La’lakaai in his book Sharhus Sunnah and even nasiruddeen albaani authenticated this Hadeeth.)

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Mas’ood رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ narrated: “The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم drew a straight line for us, then He صلى الله عليه وسلم said, ‘This is Allah’s path.’ and then He صلى الله عليه وسلم drew some lines towards right and some towards the left then said, ‘These are the paths, on each of them, there is shaitaan inviting towards him, then He صلى الله عليه وسلم recited:

“And that, ‘This is My Straight Path, so follow it; and do not follow other ways for they will sever you from His way; this is commanded to you, so that you may attain piety.’ ”
(Surah Al-An’aam 6, Verse 153)

For further commentary on the Hadith let us refer to Imam Nasafi who mentioned the finer details of this narration in his famous Tafseer Madaarik al Tanzeel:

It’s narrated that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم drew a straight line then He صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “This is the path of guidance and the path of Allah, so follow it.” And then He صلى الله عليه وسلم drew six line on the either sides and said, “These are the paths on which the shaitaan is inviting towards him, so refrain from it, and then He صلى الله عليه وسلم recited this verse. Six lines were added to each of the 12 line on both sides so they became 72 on both sides, and it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbaas رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ , “These verses are the clearest of verses, no other part of the entire Quran can cancel it (i.e. No Ayah of the Quran can make it Mansookh).

(Tafseer Al-Nasafi below the Verse No. 153, Surah An’aam 6)

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم described the straight line or path (Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah) and the other lines deviating right and left of the straight line or path inviting towards shaitan as Sects, All of them are in Jahannam except the straight line or path (Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah).

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said to us: “The Bani Israel was split into 72 sects. My Ummah will be split into 73. All of them are in Jahannam except one.” When the Sahaaba asked him who the correct group was, he answered, “Those who are on my path (Ahle-Sunnah) and the path of my Sahaaba (wal-Jamaat).” – Tirmidhi, Vol. 2, Pg. 89; Mishkaat, Vol. 1, Pg. 30; Sharah Fiq‘he-Akbar, Pg. 5

The only central body and the straight line or path (Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah) is the way of salvation and the remainder 72 on either sides are the groups of shaitaan!

Who are the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah and who are against it?

Allah azza wajal says in the Holy Quran to supplicate as follows after the Hamd in the opening chapter Surah al-Fatiha:

Guide us on the Straight Path, The path of those whom You have favoured – Not the path of those who earned Your anger – nor of those who are astray. [Surah al-Fatiha Verses 5,6 & 7]

Allah azza wajal says in the Holy Quran in Surah Nisa, The path of those whom Allah azza wajal has bestowed favoured:

And would certainly guide them to the Straight Path. And whoever obeys Allah and His Noble Messenger, will be with those upon whom Allah has bestowed grace – that is, the Prophets(Nabiyeen) and the truthful(Sidiqeen) and the martyrs(Shohada) and the virtuous(Saliheen); and what excellent companions they are! [Surah Nisa, Verse 68 & 69]

We learn from this verses, that the group of Muslims whose beliefs and teachings are truly in accordance with the Holy Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, The beliefs of the Noble Companions of the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and the Salf-e-Saliheen (our great pious predecessors) is the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah, Those who are on the Straight Path (Sirat-E-Mustaqeem).

Ahadith on whom should you follow and who are the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – says that the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم addressed the people at the time of last Hajj. “O people! I’m leaving behind among you, the Holy book (Quran) and the Sunnah. If you follow these in letter and spirit, you will never be strayed.” (Hakim Al-Mustadrik Book.1 Hadith 318)

One day, Hazrat Abu Dhar Ghifaari – may Allah be pleased with him – held onto the door of the Holy Ka’bah and said, “Those who know me, so be it, and those who do not, then I am Abu Dhar, and I have heard the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم stating:

‘My Ahle Bayt are the likes of the ark of (Prophet) Noah (peace be upon him); whoever boards it will attain salvation and whoever got left behind will be drowned’.” (Al-Mustadrak Vol. 3, p. 15)

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
My Sahaabah are like stars whomsoever you follow, you will be rightly guided. (Mishkat Sharif Pg. 554)

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
Everything has a base and the base of Islam is the love of the Prophet’s Companions and AhlulBayt. [Kanz al-Ummal, Hadith 32523]

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“Allah will never allow my Ummah to unite upon misguidance and incorrect beliefs. Allah’s mercy, blessings and protection are with the largest group of Muslims. And he who deviates from this largest group of Muslims will be thrown into Hell.” (Sunan Al Tirmidhi Vol.2 Pg.39)

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“Follow the way of the largest group of Muslims! For, he who deviates from this group will be thrown into Hell!” [Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 3950]

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“He who deviates from the largest group of Muslims, even as much as a hand span, has himself cut off his connection with Islam”. (Abu Dawud)

Alahadrat Imam Ahmad Rida Khan عليه الرحمة has explained it beautifully, who are the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah:

Ahle Sunnat ka Hai Bedaa Paar As’haab-E-Huzoor ﷺ;
Najm Hain Aur Naao Hai Itrat Rasoolullah ﷺ Ki!

The nation of Ahle-Sunnah shall succeed, for the Prophet’s Companions Are its guiding stars, and its ship the progeny of Allah’s Apostle ﷺ !
