A humble appeal of AlaHazrat radi Allah anhu to muslim brethren

Madina MunawwaraIn the introduction of the book Tamheed E Iman (The Preamble to Faith) AlaHazrat radi Allah ‘anhu humbly appeals to Muslim brethren:

My dear brothers! As-salāmu álaykum wa raĥmatu’llāhi wa barakātuh. May Allāh azza wajal keep you, and for your sakes, this poor sinner, steadfast upon true faith and grant us the true love of His beloved, the last messenger Sayyidunā Muĥammad ﷺ and infuse his reverence and respect in our hearts; and that we be in that state until our last breath. Āmīn, O Lord of the Universe!

Your Lord Almighty azza wajal says:


O Messenger! Verily, We have sent you as a witness, and a harbinger and a warner. So that, [O people!] you may bear faith in Allāh and His messenger; and that you revere him and respect him, and that you sanctify your Lord in the morning and evening. [Sūrah Al-Fatĥ, 48:8-9]


O Muslims! Notice that the reasons for which the religion was given, and the Qur’ān was revealed are three, as mentioned in the above verse:

First, that people bear faith in Allāh and His Messenger ﷺ
Second, that people revere and respect the Messenger ﷺ and

Third, that they worship Allāh azza wajal.

O Muslims! Notice the elegant order of these three important principles. Faith (1) is mentioned first and worship of the Lord Almighty is mentioned in the last; and in between these two, is the reverence and honor of His beloved Prophet ﷺ.

Wilaayat is a special closeness which Almighty Allah has afforded to some of His beloved servants through His Grace and Mercy.

Law: Wilaayat cannot be acquired by self-effort. It is bestowed by Almighty Allah. However, good deeds and virtuous behaviour is a means of allowing it to be bestowed. Some blessed personalities are blessed with this privilege in advance.

Law: Wilaayat is not given to anyone without knowledge. This knowledge is either that which one has acquired, or if Allah Wills, then knowledge is bestowed upon him before he receives the station of Wilaayat.

Law: The greatest Awliyah from the beginning until the last day, are those in the Ummat of the Prophet Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam. The greatest amongst them are the Four Khulafa in order of excellence.

The first being Hazrat Abu Bakr, then Hazrat Umar, followed by Hazrat Uthman and Hazrat Ali رضى الله تعالى عنهما . Huzoor Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam bestowed the splendours from the rays of Nabuiwat to Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Umar and he made Hazrat Ali Radi Allahu anhum the station for distribution of the splendours of Wilaayat.

It is for this reason that all the Awliyah Allah turn towards Hazrat Ali Radi Allahu anhu and they shall continue to acquire this blessing through him.

Law: Tariqat is not conflicting to Shariat. In reality it is inseparable from the Shariat. Some so-called Sufis say that Shariat and Tariqat are two separate ways and distant from each other.

This is absolutely incorrect. To regard oneself independent and free from the need to adhere to the Shariat on the basis of this baseless view, leads to infidelity and heresy.

Law: No Wali is exempt from any Religious Obligation, no matter how exalted in status he may be. There are some ignorant ones who say that Shariah is only the path in order to reach the objective and they have already reached their objective, so there is thus no need for the path anymore (Allah forbid). “Bai’at” means “to be sold”. When one becomes Mureed of a Murshid, he sells his heart, life and wealth to his Murshid. After this sale he no longer has a say in these matters nor can he do as he pleases.

A’la Hazrat, Imam Ahmed Raza Khan (radi Allahu anhu) writes that it is mentioned in “Suba Sanabil” that a person was sentenced to death by an Emperor. As the executioner unsheathed a sword to behead the person, the person faced the grave of his Murshid. The executioner said, ” At times like this you should face the Qiblah.” The person answered: “Do your duty, I have faced the Qiblah. It is true that the Kaaba is the Qibla of the body, and the Qibla of the heart and soul is the Murshid.” This is real Iraadah (to become a disciple). If one persists with one’s Sheikh with this kind of sincere devotion then benefits will definitely be received.

If the Sheikh is lacking, the Sheikh’s Sheikh may not be inadequate. Otherwise, Ghausul A’zam (radi Allahu anhu), who is the source of spiritual grace and fountain of lights, will provide you with grace as long as the Silsilah (spiritual chain) is authentic. (Malfoozaat A’la Hazrat, pg.189)

A’la Hazrat (radi Allahu anhu) has mentioned that people regard Bai’at as a custom and do not really comprehend it’s meaning. A good example of Baiat is that of a certain Mureed of Sheikh Yahya Munayri (radi Allahu anhu). This Mureed was about to drown when Khizr (alaihis salaam) appeared to him and said, ” Give me your hand so that I can rescue you”. The Mureed replied, “I have already given this hand to Sheikh Yahya Munayri. Now I will not give it to anyone else”. Khizr (alaihis salaam) disappeared and Sheikh Yahya Munayri (radi Allahu anhu) appeared and rescued him from drowning. (Malfoozat A’la Hazrat, pg.164)


If a person wants to learn any art form or gain knowledge/science he will seek help from an expert in that field. Knowledge of Allah Ta’ala’s Zaat (Being) is the most difficult secret in the universe. It can only be achieved with the help of its experts, the Awliya Allah. Only these people can be accepted as Murshids (guides). The following quotation define the need and guidance of a Murshid.

Ghausul A’zam, Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qaadir Jailani (radi Allahu anhu) brings home the necessity of a Murshid in a beautiful metaphor. He says: “The heart is the plantation for the Aakhirah (Hereafter). Sow the seeds of Imaan in your heart. Irrigate, fertilise and mature it with regular good deeds. If there is kindness and energy in the heart it will be fertile and an abundant harvest will result. Should the heart be harsh and contemptuous, the soul becomes infertile and barren and no crop will be able to grow. Learn this art of farming by its farmers/experts, the Awliya Allah. Do not think your opinion to be sufficient. Our Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) says, ‘Seek help in every field from an expert in that field’”. (Al-Fath-ur-Rabbani, pg. 202)

Ghausul A’zam (radi Allahu anhu) said: “Arrogance, hypocrisy, egoism, are all arrows of Shaitaan aimed at your hearts. One should formulate a strategy to defend oneself from this attack. The correct strategies are explained and demonstrated by the Mashaa’ikh (Guides). You should heed to their commands and act on them. They will guide you on the path of Allah since they have already travelled on this path. Ask their advise on matters relating to the Nafs (carnal desires), cravings and other weaknesses because they have also suffered their consequences and are well aware of the dangers and harms of evil desires. They have battled these over a long period of time and can confront, control and defeat them”. (Al-Fath-ur-Rabbani, pg. 150)

The Spiritual Orders (Salasul-i-Tariqat)

The spiritual and temporal head of the Muslims is Huzoor e Poor Noor Sayyadul Aalameen Hazrat Muhammad Mustapha Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam . Spiritually He is the fountainhead from whom all channels of guidance and inner inspiration flow to all directions. Although all the prominent Companions (Radi Allahu anhum) of Sayyadinah Hazrat Muhammad Mustapha Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam continued to provide outer and inner guidance to the Muslim people, wherever they happened to be after the departure of Rasoolullah Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam from this world, the main source of spiritual inspiration and training were the first Caliph, Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (Radi Allahu anhu) , and the the fourth Caliph Hazrat Ali al-Murtuzaa (Radi Allahu anhu) , who has been described in a Hadith as the gateway to the “City of Knowledge”, the City being Sayyidinah Huzoor e Akram Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam Himself. Knowledge (Ilm) has been identified with inner esoteric knowledge. Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (Radi Allahu anhu) was succeded by Hazrat Sulaiman Farsi (Radi Allahu anhu) as a Caliph and the Silsilah Naqshbandiya traces its origin to Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (Radi Allahu anhu) through Hazrat Sulaiman Farsi (Radi Allahu anhu) .

The remaining three great Salasul (Plural of Silsila) sprang from the leadership of Hazrat Ali (Radi Allahu anhu) in the following manner:

Hazrat Ali (Radi Allahu anhu) had four Caliphs:

1. Sayyidinah Hazrat Imam Hasan (Radi Allahu anhu) .

2. Sayyidinah Hazrat Imam Hussein (Radi Allahu anhu) .

3. Hazrat Ibn Ziyad (Radi Allahu anhu) .

4. Hazrat Imam Hasan of Basra (Radi Allahu anhu) .

Sayyidinah Hazrat Imam Hasan (Radi Allahu anhu) & Sayyidinah Hazrat Imam Hussein (Radi Allahu anhu) ,
were succeeded by their sons and the sons of of their sons, all known as Aima-Ahl-Bait (Radi Allahu anhum) , who continued to guide the Muslims throughout centuries.

Hazrat Imam Hasan of Basra (Radi Allahu anhu) had many Caliphs, two of them being prominent:

1. Hazrat Abdul Wahid bin Zaid (Radi Allahu anhu) .

2. Hazrat Habib Ajami ( Habib the Persian) (Radi Allahu anhu) .

Hazrat Habib Ajami (Radi Allahu anhu) the second Persian after Hazrat Sulaiman Farsi (Radi Allahu anhu) , carried the torch of the spiritual light of Sufism to his homeland, Iran, and many Arab and non-Arab Shayukh (plural of Shaikh) received training from him.

The Fourteen Salasul

The Caliphs of Imam Hasan Basra radi allhau anhu went on multiplying during the first and second centuries of the Islamic era till they were grouped into the following fourteen orders or schools each named after their heads:

1. Silsila Zaidia: It is named after Khaja Zaid bin Abdul Wahid radi allhu anhu , the Khalipha of Hazrat Hasan radi allhu anhu of Basra. Shaikh Zaid radi allhu anhu received another robe (khirqa) of khalafat from Shaikh Kumal bin Ziyad radi allhu anhu as well. Five of the descendants of Hazrat Abdullah bin Auf radi allhu anhu , famous companion of Rasoolullah Salla Allahu ta’ala’alayhi wa sallam , also joined this Sisila.

Silsila Qadriya Ghawsia

Silsila Qadriya, Ghawsia: It is named after Sayyadinah Shaikh Sayyad Abdul Qadir Jilani radi allahu anhu who was the Mureed and Khalifa of Shaikh Abu Said Makhzumi radi allahu anhu , the Khalifa of Abul Hasan Ali Qarshi radi allahu anhu ,Khalifa of Shaikh Abul Farah al Tartusi radi allahu anhu , Khalifa of Shaikh Abul Fazl Abdul Wahid Yamni radi allahu anhu ,Khalifa of Shaikh Abu Bakr Shibli radi allahu anhu , Khalifa of Shaikh Syed al Taifah Junaid Baghdadi radi allahu anhu  till Hazrat Ali Murtuza radi allahu anhu . Sayyadinah Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani radi allahu anhu  received a robe of Khilafat through His ancestral link from Sayyadinah Imam Hassan bin Ali al-Murtuza radi allahu anhu  as well as with eleven links in between.

Sayyadinah Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani radi allahu anhu is the Emminent Wali Allah who enjoys the distinction of being Ghaws (Supreme Commander in the Spiritual Hierarchy). He also enjoys the status of Mahbubiat (Beloved of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’alaa) and Fardaniat (Singularity with Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’alaa).
